Rebuild damaged teeth and restore a healthy and attractive smile with Dental Crowns

At Balboa Island Dentistry, we understand the importance of maintaining a healthy smile and providing our patients with the highest quality of care. Dental crowns are a common and effective treatment option for restoring damaged or decayed teeth.

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are custom-made caps that are placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, and function. They are made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal, and resin. Dental crowns are designed to blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing a durable and long-lasting solution for tooth restoration.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

There are numerous benefits to getting dental crowns, including:

Improved Appearance: Dental crowns can improve the appearance of your smile by covering up imperfections such as chips, cracks, and discoloration.

Enhanced Strength and Durability: Dental crowns are strong and durable, providing added protection to weakened or damaged teeth.

Restored Functionality: Dental crowns can restore the function of a damaged tooth, allowing you to eat, speak, and chew without discomfort.

Longevity: With proper care and maintenance, dental crowns can last for many years, making them a cost-effective solution for tooth restoration.

The Process of Getting Dental Crowns

The process of getting dental crowns typically involves two appointments. During the first appointment, our dentist will examine your teeth and gums to determine if dental crowns are the right treatment option for you. If it is determined that dental crowns are needed, your tooth will be prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crown.

Next, our dentist will take impressions of your tooth or scan your prepared tooth with out state of the art intraoral scanner to create a custom-made dental crown that fits perfectly over your existing tooth. While your permanent crown is being fabricated in a dental laboratory, a temporary crown will be placed to protect your tooth.

At your second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed, and the permanent crown will be cemented into place. Our dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable and secure fit. Once the crown is in place, you can enjoy all the benefits of a restored tooth.

How Dental Crowns Improve Oral Health

In addition to the aesthetic benefits, dental crowns can also improve your oral health in several ways:

Protection: Dental crowns protect weakened or damaged teeth, preventing further decay or damage.
Stability: Dental crowns help stabilize a tooth weakened by decay or injury, preventing further deterioration.

Alignment: Dental crowns can help improve the alignment of your teeth, promoting a more even bite and reducing strain on surrounding teeth.

Oral Hygiene: Dental crowns are easy to clean and maintain, allowing you to practice good oral hygiene habits and prevent future dental problems.
